"A Woman in a Man’s World" Jeanette Forbes, MD of PCL Group After the severe weather put paid to our January event, Aberdeen Entrepreneurs would like you to emerge from your igloos and join us at our 3rd event, where keynote speaker Jeanette Forbes will deliver a talk on being “A Woman in a Man’s World”. Her story is relevant to all would-be entrepreneurs, of either sex, as she will describe the challenges that any SME has to face and how she overcame them. As always, there will be a light supper and the event’s corporate entertainment will be provided by Fifth Dimension. The event will once again be held at the Doubletree by Hilton – for all those who went to the wrong venue last time, please note that this hotel is at the Beach and was formerly called the Patio. Keynote Speaker – Jeanette Forbes
Jeanette started her working career as a receptionist, gained promotion to secretary and by the time she reached the position of personal assistant, was already identified as a person who was reliable and ‘got things done’. Being a mum, running a house and holding down a full time job is more than enough for most, but Jeanette attended college one day a week to obtain her degree and worked on a Saturday to make up the time for her employer. At the time, she did not have a computer at home so went into work at four in the morning to do course work, and return home by six to get the children ready for school before starting her ‘real job’ at eight thirty. Once qualified, Jeanette was head-hunted by a number of organizations and earned the reputation of being honest, committed and most of all efficient at getting projects finished ahead of schedule, finally ending up as IT Systems Manager for ESL Group, in charge of multiple sites between Inverness and Newcastle. Jeanette was made redundant in 1999 when the offshore sector suffered a downturn and made the decision, with the backing of her family and business advisors, to start her own business. Today PCL Group is a total IT service provider to four main industry sectors, Offshore, Marine, Commercial and Industrial. Their work includes a number of onshore and offshore based projects working with “blue-chip” companies. Jeanette Forbes has achieved a significant amount of local and national industry awards throughout the 10 years - winning the Prowess award for SET in 2008 for the UK and more recently winning the Enterprising Woman award for Innovation/SET 2009 for the UK. PCL Group firmly believes in putting something back into the community - Jeanette is Chairperson for the Children 1st Business Group, is a board member for Aberdeen Foyer, a member of the Business Committee for TechFest and a partner of the Women into ICT project. Corporate Entertainment – Fifth Dimension Fifth Dimension are Bill Duncan, Jeff Burns and Ivor Smith, a team of corporate presenters and magicians.
